LayersQL - Smarter Metrics for Merchandising
We’re excited to announce the initial release of LayersQL, the analytics query language built into the Layers platform.
LayersQL is a derivative of ShopifyQL, designed specifically for ecommerce merchandising and analytics. It keeps the simplicity of ShopifyQL while adding flexibility where it matters most for day-to-day use in Layers.
Where to find it
You can start using LayersQL today by going to Catalog → Metrics in the dashboard navigation.
Why this matters
When we first added support for metrics in sorting, there were some big limitations:
- You could only use one date range across all metrics.
- You could only group metrics by one attribute across all of them.
These constraints made it hard to create meaningful, flexible sort orders.
What LayersQL unlocks
With LayersQL, those barriers are gone:
- Use different date ranges per metric, so you can mix short-term and long-term performance signals.
- Group metrics by different attributes, giving you more precise control over how products are evaluated.
- Create metrics once and reuse them across dashboards and merchandising rules, keeping analysis and execution in sync.

The big picture
LayersQL connects your analytics and merchandising strategies in a way that wasn’t possible before. You can now design rich, flexible metrics and put them directly to work in how products are ranked and presented — closing the loop between insight and action.
