Sort Search Results by Metric Inside Ranking Rules

Change how search results are sorted — based on what the customer is searching for.

Ranking rules now support a Sort Expression action. When a rule matches a search query, it can blend one or more metrics into the ranking alongside relevance — so you can influence the order of results without replacing relevance entirely.

  • Query-triggered sorting — Sort by discount percentage when someone searches "sale," or by newness when they search "new arrivals"
  • Weighted blending — Each metric gets a weight that controls how much it influences ranking relative to search relevance
  • Stack multiple metrics — Add up to three metrics per sort action to create composite ranking strategies
  • Works with all targeting — Combine with exact match, contains, or semantic targeting to control when the sort applies

Sort expressions are available alongside boost, bury, and pin actions in the ranking rule editor.
