Contextual Targeting for Merchandising Rules
Merchandising just became significantly more powerful. You can now target merchandising rules based on real-time session context, allowing different customers to see different product arrangements—automatically.
What’s new
Contextual Conditions
Merchandising rules can now evaluate request-time context, including:
- Geography (country, state, city)
- Device type
- Customer attributes and tags
- UTM and campaign parameters
- Channel or environment data
Rules only apply when their conditions evaluate to true.
First-Match-Wins Rule Evaluation
Multiple rules can target the same collection and sort order. Layers evaluates them in order and applies the first matching rule, enabling clean fallback strategies.
Example:
- US visitors → US-specific merchandising
- UK visitors → UK-specific merchandising
- No conditions → Global default
